Happy Tails Kindergarten


Now being offered at Jefferson Road Animal Hospital for puppies between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks. Start your puppy off right by socializing them to many experiences during a very critical developmental time so they can be well adjusted.

Our goal is to socialize your puppy to prevent fear of the scary things in life that can cause many of the unwanted behavior problems and fears later in life. We will introduce your puppy to other puppies, sights, sounds and adventures that will help socialize your puppy. We will help you teach basic manners through positive reinforcement training. Learn how to better understand your puppy so they can better understand you.
Puppies can start socialization classes as early as 8-9 weeks of age. Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of distemper/parvo vaccines and first deworming at least 7 days prior to start of first class. They should be kept up to date on vaccines and deworming based on recommendations as stated by the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviour.

Classes will run for 6 weeks and consist of socialization with other puppies, desensitization to many sights and sounds and basic manners (sit, down, stand, walk on a loose leash, recall, drop it, off, take it,settle).

We will discuss crate training, house training, clicker training, and bite inhibition. Bite inhibition must be taught prior to 5 months of age as it cannot be taught any later. We will also go over any potential problems such as separation anxiety, resource guarding, and destructive behavior.

Classes will be at Jefferson Road Animal Hospital in the south entrance at the back of the building. Please enter through the chain link fence area.


In addition to the age requirement, your puppy is required to be up to date on it's first set of distemper/parvo vaccines and have been given one deworming.  We strongly recommend getting an intra-nasal kennel cough vaccine as well.
